Built in the 1960s, the Drachen Hotel has been reinvented as a 'fine-art' hotel in central Basel's museum district, nine kilometres from the airport. The hotel has 43 guestrooms which feature 'Wonders of the Modern and Ancient World' murals by 14 Spanish artists, from the Taj Mahal to the Great Pyramid. All rooms include flat-screen televisions, high-speed Internet access, minibars, hair dryers and safes. Guests can enjoy a selection of healthy vegetarian options to take away or eat in at The Vegetarian Soup and Salad Bar, which is open Monday to Saturday. Alternatively The Italian Restaurant offers simple pizza and pasta classics.
